The Storm
For the survivors of the tornadoes of April 27, 2011

Fighting for a sense of normalcy,
though there is none
since Wednesday,
when the storms came
and sucked
e  v  e  r  y  t  h  i  n  g
into a black hole
of unknown.

Life
in our dimension
simply ceased to exist,
vanished;
swept away
in swirling clouds of fury
and insanity.

As the world  tilted.

Some
slid off the edge
into blackness.
While others
picked up pieces
of brokenness,
with
unbroken spirit.

And now
the sun shines eerily
on the quiet streets of rubble
and empty fields;
peeping out from a cloud
like a child
trying to make amends
for bad deeds and misbehaviors
from all-too forgiving parents.

Where do we go from here?
